The Weekend

We had a wonderfully relaxing weekend.
I think it is our only weekend for awhile that we didn't have anything major going on.
Life.is.Full
but we are thankful

We started the weekend by going to the park on friday with the new students from Jayden's new school.
it was a great way to meet people and let the kids see some faces that they will be seeing during the year.

On Friday night we had our favorite little 4 year old girl's birthday party :)
more pics from the party later
I decided (or jordan helped me decide) to take advantage of the down time
to get caught up on a few projects before the beginning of the school year.
It worked out great because jordan was super busy finishing up his summer semester
(12 hours!) and has 3 - 10 page papers due this week.
So I worked on my kind of projects (crafting) :)
and he worked on his kind of projects (studying, writing, reading) :)

i wrote a How We post on this here
but i thought i would show it again :)
i also recovered all of my dining room chairs
my mom and sister recovered these chairs when jordan and i got married (9 years ago)
and i haven't recovered them since.
and they were gross
i mean, i felt bad for people having to sit on them :)
so i decided it was time -
and now i am so mad i didn't do this YEARS ago
so sorry to all my friends who had to sit on nasty chairs at our house
please forgive me!
i don't know if i love the material i picked out,
but i do LOVE that it is clean and it matches the carpet next to it and
that all the seats are bolted in.
so that makes me happy.
my last project this weekend was organizing, storing, and ordering pictures
i try to do this twice a year.
i am not completely finished with this project -
but i made good headway.
hope your weekend was good. :)
what did you do?

How we . . . Paint a Table

so i haven't been too good about posting more
"How we . . . " posts
i am sorry
i was telling a friend yesterday that i think about it
but then i am in the middle of doing it,
and taking pictures isn't always the easiest :)
however . . .
i am going to try to be better
i have several ideas up my sleeve

yesterday we decided to paint the kids table
so i thought it would be the perfect "how we" post
here it goes:

1. make sure baby sister is taking a nap
2. make sure that daddy is available to help
3. dress the kids in clothes (or no clothes at all) that are okay to get messy
4. lay plastic underneath the table to prevent paint from dripping on your deck
5. give the boys their own paint brush
6. have daddy mix the paint with a random object found in the backyard
(b/c mommy somehow lost the stirrer that came with the paint:))
7. give each child a specific job
jayden was in charge of the legs
duncan - couldn't really do it but felt important and like he was apart
8. have daddy remove duncan after he gets paint on his hand for the umpteenth time :)
9. go over legs (or whatever part that you had your child paint) to smooth the paint
10. allow the table to dry in the hot texas sun
(and get some random creature on the table)
11. put back in its proper place with the help of your two boys
12. admire your work and marvel at how pleased you are with your paint color :)
13. thank your husband for making you do the project and for teaching your kids how to paint along the way
14. thank your parents for getting campbell the precious green chair for her birthday
15. realize you need to frame the darrah dean gooden artwork for above the table to complete the room

and that's "How We Paint a Table"

The Ogden's 40th Anniversary

greg & alice celebrated 40 years of wedded bliss on monday
what an amazing accomplishment and wonderful legacy to give us
we are so very thankful for their commitment to one another,
in these days - that is a rare thing.
so we celebrated on friday night
with a "best of Big D" tour
in a fun stretch limo :)
it pulled up to our house and swept us away
alice was wearing earrings that she wore at her rehearsal dinner 40 years ago
she came prepared with the limo stocked with food and drinks
and these adorable napkins
"forced family fun"
i thought they were funny :)
the fun wasn't "forced" at all,
but i still thought the napkins were funny
i didn't get any pictures of where we went for appetizers
(jordan banned me from taking too many pics :))
but we ate dinner at tillman's roadhouse in bishop arts district
it was our first time to go and we all LOVED it
it is such a treat to have a nice dinner with family without the kids
i love my kids and love them being with me -
but that makes times like this even more special

we got the trio of fries appetizer
yummy!
and ended with their famous s'mores
after dinner we headed to another "Best of Big D"
it was such a fun, different place
and had
AMAZING chocolate and the most unique flavors!
i can't describe it well,
but it would be a great date spot after eating dinner somewhere in bishop arts district
it is really fun and unique
geoffrey & jordan got sorbet's from here
the flavor was amazing -
i told jordan it tickled your tongue when you tasted it :)
thank you alice & greg for such a fun, memorial night and
including us in your celebration of 40 years!
we love you and are so thankful for your legacy to us
of a healthy, loving, strong marriage!
greg's advice for the secret of a long lasting marriage
"marry your best friend"
i couldn't agree more.

i am just saying -
i am super impressed with how she handled everything.
hallie is such a sweet little bundle of joy
i can't wait to watch jason & alex be parents
they are going to do an awesome job
they will be loving, caring, and super FUN
here is a pic of alex when she was born and hallie
i thought that was pretty cool
hallie came on the perfect day -
my dad works half days on wednesdays and they didn't have lg that night either
she's so sweet and thoughtful :)
duncan is such a lover
this is the second newborn he has seen in a week and for both of them he wanted to kiss their head
what a little LOVER
here is the ogden fam with jason & hallie
i will say i feel like we are a like a tornado coming into the room,
and the peace after a storm once we leave
thankfully alex & jason were gracious with us :)
we love you already hallie and can't wait to watch you grow!
