Do unto Others

Christy told me about a recent event amidst the consumer culture here in our city. Carried away by the offerings a certain store, Jayden made known his desire for a certain stuffed animal. Christy deemed this animal not desirable and told Jayden to return the undesired animal to his shelf. Then the fun began. Different responses that we have experienced from our own children include but are not limited to the following: writhing-standing and at times on the ground as well, shrieking at different decibel levels, pouting, sulking, throwing, flinging, and just overall losing it. But this day was a different day - and on this day Jayden's response did not fit within the predictable framework. This day he responded to the command of 'return animal' with a biblical response. Now, we are working on biblical literacy at church, so the pastor at Jayden's church was at first pleased to hear that his retort was informed in such a way. His response? Do unto others as you would have them do unto you, mommy. Christy was having a challenging day so I picture her stifling a grin to redouble her efforts of dissuading the purchase. But even with her best efforts, Jayden continued back his biblical volleys until a standoff was achieved and he had to stand down. Fight the good fight, Jayden, finish the race, keep the faith:)
